J. D. Fleishman - Looking for Maya J. D. Fleishman's photojournalistic expose of her adventures in the skin trade. With text by Black Alex, interview with Lauri Bortz, and a poem by Jeff Burns. 14 black and white photographs, 5 color Limited edition, few left, 32 pages abaton writes: "Looking for Maya" is the latest book by New York conceptual artist JD Fleishman.
"Looking for Maya" is a photojournalistic documentation of the artist's venture into the world's oldest profession. For the past two years, Fleishman has been privy to the daily operations of an elite New York City massage parlor. She's used this time and space to record the true intimacies in the life of a working girl.
With unapologetic directness, Fleishman points her viewers toward a forbidden zone, where the promise of sensuality has been well constructed. She captures the sex server in moments of candor, both at work and at play. The resulting images expose the female form in it-s sheer beauty and stark availability.
"Looking for Maya" is thirty-two pages in lengh and contains twenty photographs, fifteen black and white, five in full colour. An interview with the artist by playwright Laurie Bortz is included, as is an excerpt from the novel "Privilege" by Black Alex and a poem by Jeff Burns.
