Dinesh Allirajah - A Manner of Speaking short stories Dinesh Alliraja (Liverpool), who describes himself as a short story writer, jazz poet, performer, workshop leader, member of Black Arts Alliance published his new book September 2004. Some quotes about him and his work:
Dinesh brings his stories to life with his poetic language which paints vivid images that draw you inside.
Levi Tafari
Language has been redefined by contemporary cultural theorists as "meaning
as use". As a Sufi I know that "meaning" can be used to cover "Truth" or
reveal it. Those who cover "truth" are called politicians, those who reveal
it are the warriors of the Soul known universally across all cultures as
poets.
Dinesh is "Truth's" soft-spoken assassin, one of Liverpool's pioneers in the
cause of jazz poetry, and one of Life's heroes.
Mohammad Khalil
Dinesh has a unique skill, he captures humour and wraps it so rhythmically that we don’t at first realise we’ve been educated.
SuAndi OBE, Black Arts Alliance
Dinesh is someone whose work I like and admire but he is also someone who I love. This work is like Din himself, it seems quiet but it is strong, humorous, articulate, full of musical and literate references, but most importantly it is passionate and honest. Stories told from personal experience allowing us the listener/reader to share wonderous times of love, romance, pain, sorrow, fun, to travel with Din, to be part of his life. Din exposes himself to us and in doing so we see bits of ourselves and feel safer knowing that other people laugh and cry at the same things as us and feel the same in this passionless, isolated time - we are not alone when we read Din's work, we are part of the world that Din sees and we are his neighbours and friends. I love people who live by the seat of their pants, I love Din because he lives by the beat of his heart, we know who Din is and we love him. This is work of an experienced story-teller, a "liver" and a lover, prose of the highest quality, Din is one of the great jazz-poets for me, his words flow fast and true picking me up and taking me with him on his journeys, his work is a voyage, a day trip, a night out, a walkabout. I was with Din during some of these times and the beauty - yes beauty - is that anyone reading this work can feel that they were with us in France, Poland and Liverpool. Rave on Dinesh.
