Walter Dahn & Hornissen - "honey and smut"

for the first time after ten years the cologne artist walter dahn publishes an new album on the new label farbe1. and for the first time ever - does his name appear on the cover at all. the time that he worked using a nom de plumer or working in "concept bands" is past. walter dahn & hornissen had their first success with the album "2 years" (82-84), and with the singe "pale blue eyes" (velvet underground) a respectable indie-hit.

this new album after 20 years is likewise utterly respected. it was rated as one of the best cologne albums last year and in august 2003, the titel "time tunnel" was reissued on dj hell-s respectable "new german" compilation on gigolo records.
one of the last well known projects that walter dahn got alot of international credits for was the bionaut-remix "la lune de miel" published on stefan krachten-s "maschinenhallen" - sampler (recorded among others with his longtime project "'9 dream" with helmut zerlett). a very good premise for the multitalented artist walter dahn now to focuse more on music again!

after having listened to the second track of the new "honey and smut" the latest - it becomes completely clear, that this is the work of a musician who does not percieve "popmusic as an art punch and judy show for grown-ups" (dahn) or any quirky hobby-stuff. this is contemporary well rested music for wide awakes!

likewise did walter dahn go for the right thing, by winning the producers, gabriel ananda and fabian stall for this new album. that sounds first like a "clash of the generations" - but it ain't that simply speculated by walter dahn at all. for him this choice is about - clearly to hear - an appropriate musical placement in the here and now!

hans nieswandt with the "intro"- remix", maik loewen ( frenchpopschnecke 65 ) and cartoonfish deliver further remixes for walter dahn's new album. while the first 12 tracks represent the principal item of the album - as an atmospheric whole - 2 more remixes got addes as "enchores".

the album presents itself in 2 parts - (similar to an a-side and b-side) - and a subtle reference to dahn's unbroken love for vinyl. and by collaborating with musicians of the youngest generation of cologne electronic musicians - he avoids to recycle either himself or the eighties in a revival style.
